Best Friends Forever! - Bangkok Day 4

Bangkok, Thailand

One of the places that you have to visit in Bangkok is the Grand Palace. We bought the half-day tour from the travel agency in the airport when we arrived on the previous day.

The Grand Palace was built in 1782 during the regime of King Rama I, which served as the former residence of the Thai Kings. Visitors must be properly dressed before they are being allowed entry into the Grand Palace. You can rent the long wraps and shirts from the stalls which is near to the entrance of Grand Palace and that explains our weird outfit.

This is the entrance ticket into the Grand Palace.

The murals with 178 scenes illustrates the complete epic story of Ramayana in sequence which covers the entire compound wall. These murals emphasize on values of honesty, faith and devotion.

2 shorties and a tall babe. Hahah!

Phra Sri Rattana Chedi, a 19th-century stupa built in Sri Lankan style enshring ashes of the Buddha.

Phra Mondop, which is a library built in Thai style during the reigme of King Rama I.

A statue standing outside the Phra Mondop.

The Model of Angkor Wat that is situated within the Grand Palace. Angkor Wat is the most sacred of all Cambodian shrines and the model is as a memorial that the Kingdom of Cambodian was occupied by Siam (Thailand) for many hundred years until the colonization of Kingdom of Cambodian by France.

One of the many statues in the Grand Palace, named Kinnon, a mythological creature, half bird and half man.

Wat Phra Kaew, which means Temple of the Emerald Buddha and is located within the Grand Palace. The Emerald Buddha, is a dark green statue which is carved from a single jade stone and the temple is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand.

Close up view of the Emerald Buddha.

Nobody is allowed to touch the statue except the Thai King. The King will change the cloak around the statue for three times a year according to the season of summer, winter and rainy seasons to usher good fortune to the country during each season.

This is us posing with the Royal Guard. He can't say "No" to us for taking photos with him cos he was not supposed to move at all.

Here are some of the palaces resided by the different Kings during their reigme.

End of Day 4. ;)
